Sunshine Stars recorded their away win of the season after they overcame Abia Warriors 2-1 at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday.
The hosts have been invincible at home at the beginning of the season and have even won two games on the road but they were no match to the Owena Waves who were desperate to make up for lost points at the start of the season.
The visitors shot into a shock lead just when both teams were about going for the halftime break when Rasaq Adegbite pounced on sloppy defence from their hosts for the curtain raiser in the 45th minute as the Akure Gunners went into the break a goal up.
Abia Warriors strove without success to level scores at the commencement of the second half but they met a brickwall in sublime Sunshine defenders and goalkeeper. They however notched the equaliser in the 78th minute through Obinna Nwaimo to raise the hope of a possible comeback victory.
But it was not to be after Dele Olorundare scored the second goal of the match for Sunshine in the 90th minute against the run of play when the hosts had gone out in search of the winning goal.
The victory takes Sunshine’s point tally to 27 points from 19 matches while Abia Warriors have 30 points from 18 games
