England's Jamie Vardy insists he is NOT having a party after getting married this week
Leicester striker given permission to leave the squad to tie the knot on Wednesday vows to have a quiet one — and has even offered to play in Friday friendly
Jamie Vardy has promised he will not be having a party at his own wedding.
Striker Vardy has been given time off from England duty to marry fiancee Rebekah Nicholson on Wednesday, and will miss the European Championship warm-up game against Australia in Sunderland on Friday night.
But the Leicester City star - who is known for the supporters’ chant 'Jamie Vardy’s having a party!' - has promised to celebrate the big day sensibly... and has even offered to hurry back to play against the Aussies!
Vardy, who has already postponed the wedding once after being called up byEngland last summer, said: “It will be a very quiet night on Wednesday.
“Obviously, I hope all the guests have a good time, but I will have a quiet one. Have I got a curfew? No I’ve not got a curfew.
“But, at the end of the day, I’m a professional and understand what has to be done so I will be making sure I get plenty of sleep ready to come back in.”
Vardy asked the Football Association for suggested suitable dates before rebooking the ceremony ahead of the Euros, after postponing last year to play in two friendlies.
But he still ended up with a clash because England changed their schedule.
Vardy has had to delay his honeymoon until NEXT YEAR , and admitted he will be more nervous about Rebekah turning up to become his wife than he gets for big games.
The 29-year-old, who scored the winner in Sunday's victory over Turkey, said: “There is no honeymoon. I’ll have to take that next year some time. No, luckily there were always slots available so they were more than happy to move it.
“To be honest if you asked my partner, I don’t really get nervous. It’s strange. I probably should. But I will probably be nervous when I’m stood at end of the aisle and she’s still not turned up yet.”
England boss Hodgson has granted Vardy's Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater permission to go to his club-mate’s wedding but no-one else from the squad is expected at the ceremony.
Hodgson explained he trusts Vardy to behave himself and declined his offer to play against Australia at the Stadium of Light.
"Jamie was very good with his invites," said the England boss. "He invited everybody, but of course we can’t go.
"Having said that, we train at 5pm on Wednesday. His wedding is at 2pm, so there is a possibility and I have allowed Danny Drinkwater, if he wants, to stop off at Cheshire for the wedding and then join us at 4pm for the training session.
"You will have to ask him if he has taken up that offer.
“As for Jamie, I’m really not concerned.
"I hope he will be sensible and I believe he will be sensible. I know he really is desperate to be selected to go to the Euros and do a good job so I’m pretty confident when I see him on Saturday morning he will be fine.
“There are two points.
In pictures — England beat Turkey as they begin Euros warm-up friendlies:
"One, I thought it was certainly commendable when I called him up for those matches last June and he said ‘Well, actually I’m getting married’. I said, ‘Oh, does that mean you want to refuse selection?' He said, ‘No, no, I want to be selected so I will cancel the wedding’. So I thought that was good.
“I’d have liked him to have rescheduled it for a bit earlier, or a lot later, than he has done.
"The reasons for that, I don’t know, but I could guess he probably thought he would get a week to 10 days off at the end of the season, because that is what we have done traditionally.
“By all means feel free to ask him if he intends to let down his hair and do some stupid things after the wedding — and if the answer is ‘Yes’ feel free to batter him in the press!”
