Jamie Vardy's parents and grandparents set to miss his wedding due to family rift
Vardy’s parents and grandparents will not attend the wedding because of a falling out over bride-to-be Becky Nicholson
Vardy, 29, whose team are newly crowned Premier League champions, has bagged Football Writer Association’s Footballer of the Year award and the Barclays Premier League Player of the Season titles.
But a source close to the star said on Monday: “He’s got everything going for him apart from a normal and happy relationship with some of his family.
“He hasn’t spoken to his own mum and dad for 18 months and they’ve not been invited to the wedding.
“Jamie’s victory is bittersweet. He’s fallen out with his family because of his girlfriend.
"It’s such a pity they can’t all celebrate his sporting glory and new wedded life. ”
The groom’s dad Phil Vardy, who brought Jamie up as his own since a baby, said: “It’s not right to talk about it at such a time. It’s been going on ever since she came on the scene.
“It’s a shame and very sad. I don’t have anything directly to do with my son any more but I’m still his biggest fan from afar. I’m very proud.”
Vardy will wed Becky, 34, mum of his one-year-old daughter Sofia, at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire.
Becky’s family are expected to be out in force for the big day, with four bridesmaids in tow.
The ceremony was re-arranged to allow him to play for England in Euro 2016 after the previous date the couple set was ‘bang on’ the start of the tournament.
He is set to end his incredible season by getting hitched at mock medieval Peckforton Castle, a favourite haunt for footballers’ weddings and a Dr Who TV film location.
The £30million rated striker and his brunette wife-in-waiting have sold exclusive rights to a glossy celeb mag to cover the wedding for a six-figure sum..
Speaking about her son’s wedding, Lisa said: “I’ll never say anything about my son, good or bad.
"I’m not bothered. I get up go to work and look after my family. I’ll not be at any fancy wedding.”
Phil, 44, from Sheffield, South Yorks, confirmed: “We won’t be going to the wedding.
"It’s a real shame and very sad. I’ve given him 22 years of my life to get him to the pinnacle of his career and I can’t enjoy it. It really upsets me.”
Phil helped the former factory hand through his troubled days in non-league football,.
He said: “I follow every single thing Jamie does. I’m there at every game but he doesn’t know.
"He has no idea. I can only enjoy it from the sidelines. It really upsets me. I don’t talk to Jamie, my family doesn’t talk to him.”
Vardy’s biological dad, labourer Richard Gil, 52, only discovered who his son was five months ago, saying: “I’m completely overwhelmed and staggered to find out how famous he is. I hadn’t realised he was my son.”He had walked out on Vardy’s mum Lisa when Jamie was a baby and never stayed in contact.
Mum-of-three ex-promo girl Becky – who has two kids from previous relationships - told in a pre-wedding interview how she is desperate to have another baby, preferably a son.
She said: “Who know what the perfect Hollywood ending is going to be? We’re still in the middle of the fairy tale.”
In an online posting she called the star: “My world, my best friend, my love, my life, unity, unbreakable.”
Vardy’s spokesperson last night declined to comment on the family rift.
