England players check in for a team meeting before stepping up Euro 2016 preparations ahead of Australia friendly

  • England's first Euro 2016 warm-up game was a 2-1 win against Turkey
  • Their next match is on Friday against Australia at the Stadium of Light
  • England will have players from Liverpool and Manchester United available

Roy Hodgson's England side have begun preparations for their friendly against Australia on Friday with a squad meeting in Manchester.
Their three-game warm-up for Euro 2016 began on Sunday, with a 2-1 victory against Turkey at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium.
But Friday's match against the Socceroos at the Stadium of Light will provide Hodgson with more options to consider, with his full set of Liverpool and Manchester United players at his disposal.

ENGLAND'S EURO 2016 SQUAD

Provisional squad - to be reduced to 23 players by May 31.
Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Southampton), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Tom Heaton (Burnley)
Defenders: Ryan Betrand (Southampton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool), Danny Rose (Tottenham), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham)
Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham), Ross Barkley (Everton), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Eric Dier (Tottenham), Danny Drinkwater (Leicester), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Andros Townsend (Newcastle), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).
Forwards: Harry Kane (Tottenham), Marcus Rashford (Manchester Utd), Wayne Rooney (Manchester Utd), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Jamie Vardy (Leicester)
Aside from Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, representatives from English football's two biggest rivals were not available to Hodgson due to participation in the Europa League and FA Cup final.
And Friday's match in Sunderland could see United's 18-year-old striker Marcus Rashford handed a debut on the international stage, potentially partnered alongside Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge.
Furthermore, Chris Smalling is likely to return to the heart of England's defence, which at times appeared unstable against Turkey's frontline with John Stones partnering Gary Cahill for the encounter.
Hodgson will hope the man he knows from his Fulham days will restore some security.
Adam Lallana is also expected to start against Australia.
Sportsmail reported on Monday that the Liverpool playmaker could be in line for a starting role at the tournament itself, which for England begins on June 11 against Russia.
The 28-year-old has been a key man under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and Hodgson is tempted to deploy him in a three-man attacking midfield.

Such a decision could see Jamie Vardy, who netted the winner for England against Turkey, consigned to a place on the bench.
England's second group match of Euro 2016 is against Wales on June 16 before facing Slovakia four days later.
Prior to the tournament beginning, England face one more friendly, against Portugal at Wembley, on June 2.
