Shock Liverpool U-turn: Mario Gotze agreed £9m-a-year deal at Anfield before this happened
BAYERN MUNICH midfielder Mario Gotze was on the verge of joining
Liverpool last week.
That is
according to German magazine Kicker, who claim
the 23-year-old had agreed a £175,000-a-week deal with the Reds - worth
£9.1million a season.
But the transfer collapsed on Monday when he
decided to sack agents Sports Total and instead have a combination of family
and Munich-based agent Professor Peter Duvinage represent him.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp worked with Gotze
for four years in the Borussia Dortmund first team before he controversially
left for Bayern in 2013.
And Gotze looks set to remain at the
Bundesliga champions this summer after revealing his hopes of impressing
incoming manager Carlo Ancelotti in pre-season.
“I look forward to the new season in Munich
and will do everything possible to be in top shape for my first training
session under Carlo Ancelotti,” the Germany World Cup winner said.
However, Bayern's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
has refused to give Gotze any guarantees of regular football at the Allianz
Arena next season.
He told Kicker: "I had talks with him (Mario) and
Ancelotti. Mario knows the thoughts of Bayern. Everything was clearly and
seriously explained to Mario.
"He knows what the club thinks and what
the new coach thinks. Mario has to evaluate for himself whether he wants to
play constantly."
