Bayern Munich still open to Gotze exit despite Liverpool snub
Despite interest from Jurgen Klopp, the midfielder insists he wants to stay with the Bundesliga champions, but the German club's chief admits he is surprised by the decision
Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has suggested Mario Gotze could leave the club despite his decision to reject Liverpool, saying the midfielder's future is ”difficult to judge”.
According to Goal.com, Liverpool have made the Germany international their priority signing this summer, but the player appeared to rule out a move on Monday by claiming that he is looking forward to work with incoming Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti.
"I had talks with him and Ancelotti. Mario knows what the club thinks. Everything was clearly and seriously explained to Mario," Rummenigge told Kicker.
"Perhaps he didn’t want a disturbance during the European Championship.
"Mario has to make a decision - do I want to play regularly?”
Injury limited Gotze to just 14 Bundesliga appearances this season under Pep Guardiola, in which he scored three goals.
